Museum Store
The museum has a newly remodeled gift store and orientation center! We offer many books about Elgin, written by local authors such as E.C. Alft and William Briska. The nationally distributed video, ,
the story of the Elgin Watch Factory, produced by the Society and Grindstone
Productions in 2002, is also available. Many of the store items - ornaments,
T-shirts, jewelry, and reproduction miniature windmill - are exclusively
sold at Old Main.
We now accept Mastercard and Visa for purchases over $20. For security reasons please do not send your credit card number if ordering by mail, please call the Museum and order over the phone instead.
Stop in at the Museum to see the full selection of merchandise, including T-shirts, mugs, posters, and books. The store also has children's items and interesting gifts with a historical theme. Some of the items we offer are featured below. You can order these items by sending a check or money order payable to Elgin Area Historical Society. Prices shown include shipping and handling. These items make great gifts for history buffs. The Society's book about the Elgin National Watch Company is the only book-length history of the company.
New for this holiday season are Elgin-themed earthenware bird feeders and locally-made crockery. Stop in and do some shopping!

New books offered in the store! There
Used To Be Volume I and Volume II are the latest books on local history published by the Elgin Area Historical Society. Author Steve Stroud researched and compiled hundreds of photos of Elgin's old houses - some still standing and others that have vanished from the Elgin landscape. Many of these photos have been unseen for decades. Others were reproduced from glass plate negatives in the Museum's collection and some have never been published. Both volumes of There
Used To Be feature a range of homes from high-style mansions to worker's cottages.
We have the second edition of the book by E. C. Mike Alft and Bill Briska. This limited edition, 120 page hard cover book is the world's only book-length history of the company. The Society's books can be purchased by mail, in the Museum Store, or at the following locations.
To order by mail, print this page and send it to the Elgin Area Historical Society, 360 Park St., Elgin IL 60120 along with your check made payable to the Elgin Area Historical Society. Be sure to include your shipping address! Society members receive a 10% discount on all Museum Store purchases.
